Time to Update the Old Homestead

It's hard to believe that it's been 32 years since we moved into our newly constructed home in Laramie. At that time the upstairs and the basement were both unfinished (financial institutions wouldn't let you do that these days). So, over the years we finished the second floor and basement, but the exterior and first floor remained locked in the seventies. I think it's time for some retirement fun!

We decided to start with the outside, with an eye on low maintenance and energy efficiency. We're replacing the windows with new triple pane Pella slim shade units, the fascia and soffit with metal, and the wood siding with stucco. Leslie also gets her long-time coveted bay window in the bedroom, and a new front door. We're shooting for a fall finish to complete the outside, but as usual... scheduling and weather may not cooperate.

The next big challenge will be getting Leslie to give up her 1980's rust-colored carpet. She's right, the carpet is still in great shape, but the color has gotta go...

  1. I agree, the rust colored carpet has got to go. But it IS still in excellent condition (and oh-so comfortable to take a nap on).
I can't wait until the stucco goes up... it is going to look like a brand new house! Have you chosen a color yet?
And I think your next interior project should be to update the stair rails and balusters so that they are to code. :)
Don't forget to take a break every now and then... you are working hard!
